Michigan Cares for Tourism Mill Lake Camp Renovation
The cabins at Mill Lake Camp have been empty and silent for many years, but that will change this fall when a team of volunteers comes from around the state to begin an ambitious renovation program.
Michigan Cares for Tourism, plans to recruit 200 volunteers from several professional groups, such as visitors bureaus, lodging associations and state agencies. They will be in the area Sunday, October 6 and Monday, October 7, tearing out the interiors of the old cabins, staining the exteriors, cutting back the encroaching shrubs and hauling away debris.
The cabins will be made available for rental by groups and individuals, to start with. The long term plan is to restore the camp’s original function of providing outdoor experiences for urban youth, and perhaps also to create a school for naturalist interpreters.
